1. Tell us a bit about your background, where you grew up, where you studied, and career to date.
I grew up in Auckland and spent 18 years there before moving to Wellington for University. I studied at Victoria University for four years completing my Bachelor of Commerce with Honours. Currently, I work at Coventry Group New Zealand in their marketing team as marketing coordinator. I get to work on lots of exciting things including social media management, sales catalogues & website development.
2. What makes you passionate about marketing?
Marketing is always changing and has such a large scope of areas that you can dabble in. This means there are challenges but always exciting new opportunities! Marketing also allows you to effectively communicate the benefit of products and has power to create strong influence and change.
3. What made you apply for this Board Internship?
I started attending MA events this year and it was such a great source of inspiration and was awesome meeting others in the industry. I also attended a workshop that had very interesting real-life insights. I was made aware through Linkedln of this position and as soon as I saw it I applied straight away! The ability to learn from others but also give my own unique input is exciting.
4. Has governance always interested you?
I have always been interested in strategy and processes. My Bachelor of commerce was in Marketing & Management. However, I would say my knowledge of governance could be stronger, so this is the perfect opportunity to gain a better understanding.
5. What do you think you’ll be able to offer and bring to the table as the intern board member?
I am quite an open-minded & empathetic person. I do believe these are important traits to help understand situations and look at them from different angles.
And simply – I’m very curious and have a passion for learning! This is such a unique opportunity, so I really want to embrace it and learn as much as possible as well as make my own impact.
6. What are you hoping to learn and gain from this experience?
I am keen to better understand governance and the different dynamics surrounding governance.
I am also keen to develop my own leadership skills.
7. Where do you see yourself in 15 – 20 years time?
To be completely honest – I don’t have a plan as such! I do have a strong interest in the digital marketing space, but I think you never really know how the landscape could change!
8. Lastly, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Running, reading, and spending time with friends. I didn’t read leisurely at university but have started reading again in the last 12 months and I love it!
