The Southern Committee is the voice of marketers and local 'champions' for the Marketing Association in the Southern region, acting as a conduit for marketing services and learning and development activities that meet today's business needs.

Durie Hill & Associates
Michael Durie is a life-long and passionate marketer with more than 40 years advertising, PR, sales and marketing management experience having worked across a broad range of corporate, and small-medium business enterprises in Australia and New Zealand.
Working under his consulting practice Durie Hill, he mentors and advises organisations on how to grow, through data driven insights and strategy using creative tactics to find, get, keep and grow their customers profitably.
Michael is Southern chair of the Marketing Association, a former chair of KEA NZ based in NSW, and for some years an ADMA marketing tutor and executive committee member. Between 2004-2015 Michael was senior sales manager and marketing consultant with Australia Post where he worked with many of the largest corporations in Australasia advocating the medium of mail.
He also has a special interest supporting the New Zealand start-up and entrepreneurial business community and in 2020 co-founded Christchurch based clean energy-tech firm, HIKO Unlimited.
Today Michael sits on numerous advisory and governance boards for both commercial and non-for-profit organisations and is a long-standing mentor with NZ Business Mentors which has opened doors to helping local businesses during challenging times under lockdown.

Digital Content Marketer
A self-described digital ninja, Emma helps businesses succeed with her appreciation for well-honed user journeys and track record of stellar conversion rates. A member of the MA’s Southern Regional Committee, she’s passionate about improving the communities she’s part of.
In the three years she’s been part of the MA, Emma has been an integral part of the marketing teams at YHA New Zealand and the Giesen Group.
A highlight of her time at YHA New Zealand included the top to bottom rearchitecture of the not-for-profit’s website and subsequent conversion rates 3x the industry average. In her current role with wine industry heavyweights Giesen Group, Emma has maintained her reputation as a jack-of-all-trades in bringing Giesen 0% to market. This has included four sell-out product launches to date, most notable for earning $200,000 revenue in just two months as she recently presented at our Marketing South conference.
Emma’s favourite parts of contributing to the Southern Regional Committee have included facilitating networking events and looking for opportunities to add to the local community.
Senior Marketing Advisor

Clare is a senior marketer with 14 years experience across a variety of marketing roles in education with a solid skill base in the strategy and implementation of online and offline marketing.
She is passionate about ensuring that the marketing community on the South Island has access to training and information and sees the marketing association as a key driver for this and is currently undertaking her Professional Certified Strategic Marketer alongside studying full time through Lincoln University and working as a freelancer.
Clare is passionate about helping small companies achieve their marketing aims through the Marketing for Good and ASB Backing Business events.
Senior Lecturer in Marketing

Dr Ning (Chris) Chen is a senior lecturer in marketing at the Department of Management, Marketing & Entrepreneurship, University of Canterbury.
Dr. Chen is an active university teacher covering various marketing subjects, and a proactive marketing researcher in identity and attachment theory in different context including place, branding, and sports.
He has been working with tourism and sport industry in NZ and around the globe, and joined MA Southern SIG since early 2020.

Keighlee is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce, with a major in Marketing at the University of Canterbury. She is hoping to get into Digital Marketing as she sees it being a dynamic and evolving industry that will be exciting to be part of.
Keighlee is one of the founding members of the southern Emerging Marketers Group, and is looking forward to helping the South Island's up-and-coming marketers get involved and connected within the industry. She's also a student representative on the southern Marketing Association committee.
In her spare time (when she has it!) Keighlee is a dancer, and runs the social media for a dance school here in Christchurch. She's always keen to learn something new, and is passionate about shaping the future of Marketing in New Zealand.

John is passionate about lifting the status of marketing in New Zealand business. "NZ Business would benefit from having more professional marketers on boards as we are trained to look forward in a strategic manner and creatively problem solve. To do this we need to introduce new standards for marketers in NZ and entice more young marketers to be involved in our marketing family. As an organisation, our focus is members first, last and always and we want to innovate with new programs and products in 2020 and beyond."

Roxy looks after the MA's event series and several conferences. She has incredible attention to detail and excellent time management skills.
Seeing event attendees gaining insights & enjoying the events she plans is what makes her so passionate about her work.
Always one to have packages delivered to the workplace – Roxy is an avid online shopper and loves nothing more than to watch Netflix and play games.
