The New Zealand Social Marketing Network (NZSMN) presents a webinar that explores strategies to engage with Rainbow communities through a community-led, co-creative approach, ensuring respectful and effective interventions that address the unique challenges these communities face.

Knowing how to engage with and navigate Rainbow spaces is crucial for creating value for these communities, which historically (and still to this day) had to deal with adverse experiences and outcomes. Applying social marketing practice can enable change that creates better outcomes through social good for our Rainbow communities. However, there needs to be more conversation around how to engage appropriately with Rainbow communities that do not mirror the normative pressures that already affect their lives.

This webinar focuses on strategies for creating rainbow-friendly and affirming environments in social marketing interventions that could potentially increase receptivity and engagement.

These strategies were developed through a community-led approach that involved collaboration with Rainbow communities in co-creative workshops.

About our presenter:

Johnpaul Smith is a doctoral candidate at the University of Canterbury, and specialises in social marketing and minority-based studies. Currently his research focus is in the rainbow space, and, given the intersectional nature of identity, also encapsulates people with a variety of identity markers (including race and ethnicity).
